Language & Communication group members help improve government communication[October 28, 2019]
Ted Sanders is part of the steering committee of the Dutch-Flemish Netwerk Begrijpelijke Overheid (NBO) which aims to tackle unclear language use by government. In 2018, this network started the ‘Direct Duidelijk’ campaign, which is now followed up with the Direct Duidelijk brigade (‘plain language brigade’). Language coaches, language training for civil servants, and practical tools should help clarify language use by government. With this new campaign, Dutch governmental institutions can help improve their language use.
Ted studies language and understanding in collaboration with Language & Communication group members Henk Pander Maat and Suzanne Kleijn. Together, they developed a new readability formula for Dutch texts.
